Issue 23

A place where textiles and homeware are made with human hands. Where childhood memories, the natural world and my love of colour combine to create lifelong textiles.

3 things you always have in the fridge

Cherry Tomatoes, me and my daughter are obsessed with snacking on them.

Aloe Vera Gel. It’s great for sunburn, chicken pox, heat rash and massages.

Cheese

When life is really busy, how do you carve space to maintain peace?

Cold water swimming! at my local lido straight after school drop off. As the water is so cold it forces you to clear your mind and just concentrate on your breath and body scanning. You can only safely spend 5/8 minutes in the water so it quick and incredibly effective.

I also wake up extra early, 6am, sometimes 5.30 so I can stretch and have some quiet time before the chaos of kids and work.

How do you take your coffee and how many a day?

Cappuccino, cows milk, no chocolate.

Some days 1, some days 3. It changes drastically depending on if I’m at home printing, on set shooting or at meetings.

Desert island Beauty item

Oskia Renaissance cleaning gel.

I’ve been obsessed with this product for years. I use it daily to clean my face but also as my product for face massages which I do 2/3 times a week. Beauty always starts with your skincare choices. No amount of expensive foundation will cover skin that isn’t properly cared for.

What is your ultimate indulgence that makes you more productive

Taking a morning off to stomp around the Heath with friends or have a chat over coffee. Spending time with my friends gets me out of my own mind and leaves me feeling so much more positive and excited about what’s possible.

Top 3 apps

Audible - When I’m printing I listen to books and podcasts religiously.

Deliciously Ella’s app.  - Its super cheap and has amazing Yoga and Meditation videos on it.

Flowkey - A Piano learning app. I’m dyslexic and find reading music extremely hard but this app shows someone playing the notes so I can memorise it.

What does wellness look like to you?

Walking around the heath, cold water swimming, listening to books, silence.

I need time alone every week to feel good.

Thank you so much Nic!

Non-Negotiable’s with the talented Helen Snook, Co - Founder of INDI

Issue 22

Helen is the co-founder of Indi. Their award-winning range of whole food supplements is designed to fill common nutrition gaps with the most nutritious plants on earth.

Check out more here: indisupplements.com

3 things you always have in the fridge

- Kefir—I mix with Indi Body every morning, there’s no better way to start the day.

- Seasonal fruit & veg—I’m a big advocate for eating seasonally. It’s more nutritious, flavoursome, environmentally-friendly and cheaper too.

- Honest Toil Olive Oil—admittedly not in the fridge, but a cold-pressed, unfiltered extra virgin olive oil is an absolute essential in our kitchen for it’s incredible health benefits, and delicious taste.

When life is really busy, how do you carve space to maintain peace?

I’m going to have to credit my husband here.  He’s my Indi co-founder, an amazing father to our 3 year old and the most supportive partner.  Together we’re still learning how to balance our business with family life, and I can’t say there’s much peace, but we’re enjoying the ride—most days!

I should also call out our vivacious cockapoo, Alba, who manages to simultaneously add to and ease the madness. A walk with her in our local Richmond Park is the best way to find headspace.  To anyone thinking about getting a dog: do it.

How do you take your coffee and how many a day?

I don’t drink coffee, I’ve never liked the taste. I get my mid-afternoon caffeine hit from Indi Mind mixed with coconut milk to fuel a productive afternoon, plus t’s delicious and satisfies my sweet tooth!

What is your ultimate indulgence that makes you more productive?

Sleep!  We’ve recently started eating dinner earlier at 6.30pm—it’s been a game-changer in helping us get to bed earlier. Lack of sleep or poor sleep has a big impact on my productivity and mood, so I do everything I can to protect it!

Top 3 apps

Fluid Form Pilates

Calm

Gail’s—I practice what I preach, but I believe in balance—bread, cake and croissants are my guilty pleasure!

What does wellness look like to you?

Waking up feeling energised and content, which is usually down to eating the right foods, taking the right supplements, moving everyday and going to bed on time!

Thank you so much Helen!

This weeks Non Negotiables with the amazing Amy Simon - Global Head of PR & Talent at PrettyLittleThing!

Issue 21

What time do you usually start your day?

My alarm goes off at 5:30am

When life is really busy, how do you carve space to maintain peace?

Turn my phones off! Lol. I’m a real home body (I know a lot of people won’t believe that) but I love being in my own space and either watching a series or reading a good book

How do you take your coffee and how many a day?

I don’t drink coffee. I also don’t understand people who say they can’t start their day until they’ve had a coffee! I’m not a huge hot drink fan. I prefer a blueberry iced matcha from Blank Street

Desert island Beauty item?

Mario Badescu lip mask (life changing!)

What is your ultimate indulgence that makes you more productive?

I’ve actually started the 5-minute journal this year and have managed to keep it up so far. It’s great having 5-10 minutes each morning and evening to write down your thoughts / affirmations each day and not check your inbox on your phone as soon as you open your eyes which is a terrible habit of mine!

Top 3 apps

Tik Tok (I’m loving for recipes at the moment as I really want to try cooking more this year!)

NHS Quit Smoking (it’s become my new daily check in)

Vinted

Pinterest

What does wellness look like to you?

I’m obsessed with SoulCycle and really love doing a spin work out early in the morning. I also have an incredible PT I’ve been working with for years and I always prefer to do early morning work outs. For me, wellness is having space to clear your mind and trying to find time throughout your day to take some ‘me’ time – whether it’s going for a walk, taking time away from your desk, seeing a friend for coffee or ringing a friend you’ve not spoken to for ages.

Go to comfort outfit?

I recently brought a dupe of the Skim lounge pants and they are chef’s kiss. They feel so cosy and paired with an oversized tee that’s my ultimate comfy outfit

Zoom to telephone call?

Much prefer zoom/Facetime (I like to see a face!)

WhatsApp or iMessage?

WhatsApp but I HATE having loads of groups – I find it really stressful

Perfect way to spend a day off?

Either a day at Soho Farmhouse or a brunch in Portobello Road followed by a stroll around the market. It’s my favourite place in London

Thank you so much Amy!

Non Negotiable’s with Frances Costelloe

This weeks Non Negotiables with the amazing Frances Costelloe - an artist & brand consultant!

Issue 20

Frances Costelloe is an artist and brand consultant based in London. After working for luxury fashion and homeware brands notably Bella Freud, Frances founded her own eponymous brand in 2017.

3 things you always have in the fridge

I always have organic salted butter, some form of cheddar cheese and salad ingredients. I always have tomatoes too but they live outside the fridge to retain flavour. I am a butter addict- I have a theory it’s a health food.

When life is really busy, how do you carve space to maintain peace?

Walking sometimes feels like a real luxury. To have the time to walk somewhere not jumping on a lime bike or rushing around. Otherwise swimming always makes me feel better. I much prefer swimming outside so I go on a rotation of Park Road Lido, the West Reservoir, the Hampstead Ladies pond and the Oasis in Covent Garden.

How do you take your coffee and how many a day?

First off I have an English Breakfast tea. I have now started to eat first before coffee. Birdie Hall, who seemed like an expert on the topic, explained to me otherwise your body thinks it being chased by a bear. I’m not hungry first thing so have my coffee about 9 ish. I take it by pouring nearly boiling water over coffee in a metal reusable coffee filter cone. I drink it out of a large almost pint sized red and white cornishware mug. Then I top it up with a dash of cold milk. I’m not fussed at the temperature, it’s more about the effect.

What is your ultimate indulgence that makes you more productive?

I wouldn’t say anything that is an indulgence makes me more productive. I sometimes use the Pomodoro method when I’m really distracted. Another technique I use is that if I have a big piece of paid work I think of something that I will buy with a small fraction of the invoice. I am a big fan of rewards and have used them to make a game of things I find hard.

Top 3 apps

The FreeAgent app. It’s a great accounting app which means I can track my finances as a freelancer and invoice on the go. It’s free with Mettle bank accounts.

Zoom by Ocado - I kind of wish it didn’t exist but I now use it a lot. I’ve never been a massive Ocado fan but getting my shopping in 60 mins or less even on a Sunday is perfect when I’m house bound either kids and not organised for the weekend ahead.

Yoto- we are a big fan of Yoto in this family. It’s also very useful on long car journeys as you can play the app through the car speakers. You can also record your own stories and add them to the blank cards. I find Paddington one of the most relaxing. A code for anyone who wants 10% off:

My Yoto Tokens

( I get Yoto points )

What does wellness look like to you?

A combination of health, happiness and contentment. I don’t think you can buy wellness I think it’s more about a state of mind and a stillness.

Thank you so much Frances!

Non-Negotiable’s with the amazing Jessie Hyman, founder of Pruzan

Pruzan was founded by two athletes based in London and Los Angeles. We got the pleasure of speaking with Jessie one of the co-founders, in this weeks non negotiable.

Pruzan speaks to an evolving profile of runners who seek intentional design, security and performance on and off the track. Their collection is inspired by bodies in motion and the intention to create a sustainable, higher-mileage wardrobe.

3 things you always have in the fridge

Oat milk, cheese, olives

When life is really busy, how do you carve space to maintain peace

Going through my daily run routine is my time to unwind myself from any stress and be outside. While I'm running, I let my mind wander and feel free from the pressure to be productive or to work. Instead, I remind myself I'm doing exactly what I should be doing which is putting one foot in front of the other.

How do you take your coffee and how many a day?

A Grind Nespresso pod + a heavy pour of oat milk at home.

I used to thrive off coffee but at the expense of breakfast and would crash later in the day! What a waste! Now I eat breakfast first and decide if I want a coffee. I do love coffee shops so if I'm out and about I'll grab an oat milk latte, Roslyn is a favourite spot.

Travel hacks and tips, do you have an inflight routine

I put a podcast in and snooze on most flights! The Uniqlo lightweight down jacket has saved me on flights, it folds into a tiny pouch and can be used as a pillow or as an extra layer if it gets chilly.

What is your ultimate indulgence that makes you more productive

An ergonomic at home work set up. I hope to graduate to a standing desk one day.

Top 3 apps

Google Maps (I'm always planning my commute and then still somehow show up 20 minutes late. I also feverishly pin places to save reminders of restaurants to try, shops to check out, new places to visit)

Shopify (Life of a small business owner)

Strava (It's a place to support each other's running online and I love being in the loop of my friends training.)

What does wellness look like to you?

Time with my partner, my dog, my friends, my community, eating delicious food and being outdoors as much as possible!

Thank you so much Jessie!

When life is really busy, how do you carve space to maintain peace

As a mother and a business owner time and space is in short supply but I try to swim in the sea at least once a week all year round.  In the winter I need to really make myself go but I always feel better for it. Looking out towards France in the cold sea even for a few minutes makes me feel amazing.

What is your ultimate indulgence that makes you more productive

The vegan chocolate cinnamon buns from Oast Bakery in Margate. I go early on a Thursday morning before I open the shop and just have half an hour with a coffee and a bun. I always feel like I have been kind to myself afterwards which gives me the boost I need.

Top 3 apps

VSCO - filtering your photos make for really good consistency when it comes to branding.
Shopify - I am always logged on whether it’s on the app or my browser. It’s my constant companion!
Clue - knowing where I am in my cycle is really helpful for managing moods and knowing when I need to take it easy, get more sleep and be kind to myself -and also when I can really push myself at work or in the gym.

What are your tips for staying organised
Making lists on really nice stationery! I have a range of planners by The Completist who make joyful stationery based in Peckham. It makes list making (and ticking off!) enjoyable.

Non-Negotiables with the amazing Erim Kaur

Erim Kaur - THE CEO & FOUNDER OF BYERIM!

What does your morning routine look like?

I wake up around 10am (I’m not a morning person) - I do my work better at night time so I end up sleeping at 3am! I pray, shower and then I have breakfast. It’s really important I start my mornings slow and of course skincare and haircare with my ByErim essentials!

What are your tips for productivity?

I love doing lists, I find that I get the most stuff done the second I have an idea to do something, especially if it’s a small task, if I do it there and then it has a more likely outcome instead of me forgetting

Desert island beauty item?

The ByErim hair oil

Most used apps?

WhatsApp in Dubai for business and then Instagram purely because I like to spend a long time editing and strategizing my content

What does wellness look like to you?

I would say wellness is something that comes from within. We can do everything on the outside but it’s what’s on the inside that counts. For instance, it’s important to have a balanced and varied diet and staying regulated IE you have slept enough hours, well fed you’d be able to reach the optimal levels and reach the goals and regulating yourself emotionally etc

What inspires you creatively?

I find a lot of inspiration when I’m out and about in London - even simply seeing the way people are styling themselves,  the way they represent themselves. I like to do a bit of people watching haha

How do you unwind?

I love chatting to my friends, staying in and cooking food

When do you feel at your most productive?

I feel the most productive at night-time, you’d find me at 11pm with my laptop on my bed and in deep concentration mode!

Thank you so much Erim!

Non-Negotiable’s with the lovely Angharad George-Carey

Angharad George-Carey is a film and TV producer, director, and writer. She is the founder of Three Dragons Productions.

Being self employed is a constant juggle of managing time, productivity and also switching off. How do you do this?

So - I didn’t used to be very good at this - but had a bit of a shock this summer when I became ill with the shingles due to pushing myself too hard. And when I say this I don’t actually mean physically, I mean mentally, emotionally. My brain never ever ceases or knows how to actually switch off. Working in film and TV I’d complain to my housemate that even watching shows was work. And I felt guilty about not reading books that were about subject matters my projects were telling. For the first time in years I took August off - again, not psychically, but emotionally. I had been on holidays many times along the years during the month of August, but had the curse of guilt and feeling undeserving of it. This was constant. So, most turning temporarily into an Untouchable from The Last Of Us, I promised my mind to learn how to switch off. Once and for all. Not to sort of switch off, but really to give my body and brain the rest it needed, but had forgotten how to do.

All of us self-employers have some residual guilt which follows our every move if we’re ‘not working’ or ‘not being productive’ or ‘not networking’ in our every spare moment. Unlike (most) of our office working comrades, who get a literal clear cut off point to then go and enjoy the weekend, time and working hours for the self-employed or the company-owners becomes very blurred and boundaries are difficult to make. Our income comes from a continuous state of hustling. However - no complaining - because we’ve chosen this, right? This is how we’ve chosen to live our lives. So, we have to make it work for our bodies….and minds.

The way I have now, finally, learnt to do this - although do not claim to have perfected it in any way - is to start trying to ‘listen’ to my body in a way I used to totally ignore. Trite it may sound, but it's a total revelation. I’ll give you an example of how to do this. Weekends are a great opportunity to get in some extra work you didn’t manage in the week, or to feel fully on top of things before the start of the next, or to do the work you’re not being paid for but actually is the main gig. However, I will now only do this if I want to. If I’m doing it because I feel I should then I have fallen back into the trap of being caged-in by guilt and a fear of ‘not doing enough’. Much like the fact we all learn as we get older to better say no to social plans, we must do this with work too. And the way to tell is just to listen. If you want to, if you don’t. And not to feel guilty if the latter.

Weekends aren’t the only time however I have learnt to grant myself some guilt-free fun. If I feel I need a bit of a break mid-week, and am able to take it, I do. I now try to avoid sitting in-front of my laptop working myself into an even more stressful state due to the fact I’m too stressed, too tired or just not in the mindset to get anything really achieved. This includes forcing myself to try and be creative when I’m totally depleted. I take the morning, or afternoon, off. To myself. I go for a walk and listen to something that feeds me in some way - there is never a pattern here of what that is. I just have to work it out on the day - ‘what do I actually feel like listening to?’. Often, as if like magic, my mind finds its groove again. However sometimes it's just a day to take off, and that’s great. It’s human. It’s normal. There are, of course, days/weeks this isn’t possible due to what’s going on, however, if you can do it…do.

So, to conclude, I know we’ve heard it a thousand times, but we’re most productive, creative and inspired when we feel good. To feel good, we need to listen to what we need, and as much as possible, give it to ourselves. So take breaks, enjoy your weekends, and indulge in activities purely for pleasure. Don’t keep chasing some race that exists only in your own head. Push yourself, yes, challenge yourself, yes, set monthly goals and be psychopathic with your to-do list. But also work out when to stop, for a moment, and enjoy achieving nothing at all.

Do you work best in the morning or evenings?

I am a morning lark - not a night owl. I love being in bed at 9pm and have always struggled with late night working. I used to envy those at University who could sit in the library all night long as I felt it was so much more romantic, studenty and ‘utopian’ to my 5am alarm. It’s just not me at all. I recently learnt that there is a reason behind the fact that some of us have our energy in the mornings and some of us have our energy in the evenings. I won’t bore you with why - google Mathew Walker if you want to find out more - but I am a morning person. Always have been, forever will be. I don’t even like taking a work call after 5pm…it’s weird. So, to further the answer from question one - work out which you are, and utilise it. Know your strengths. I’m currently in the midst of writing a book, so because I often have meetings and work for other projects throughout the working day, I am finding my time to get it done at the crack of dawn. It is ironically the only thing that’s paying me at the moment - and there I am squishing it in at the top - but early morning is my favourite time of the day anyway and I find those precious hours are so quiet and peaceful to think. I wake at 5am and get 3 hours in before the day has really stirred. However, what’s important to mention is that I’m in bed by 9.30pm. Not going to bed at midnight and waking at 5am. Sleep is very important to this routine and longevity; whichever end you sit.

What are 3 things you always have in your fridge?

Feta cheese

Oat Milk - dark blue Oatley ;)

Broccoli

Weird combo. But they’re always there.

Your travel content is always gorgeous. Hacks for surviving a long haul flight?

I love flying long-haul, which is potentially quite a strange attribute of my personality. I just really vibe…the whole vibe. The infinite free cinema, the claustrophobic seat you get to claim as yours for a short-while, the food, the wine, the stewardesses and their friendly dispositions, and the forced break you have to take from your phone. Obviously I’ve had some pretty dire experiences, like we all have, but all in all…it's a firm pastime favourite.

So, my hacks would be:

  • Bring good headphones you can plug into the TV set

  • Take a toothbrush, toothpaste, face wipes and moisturiser to feel fresh for both the beginning and the end of the flight

  • Some people would say pop a sleeping pill, but I love watching all the free films and I really don’t want to miss the food so I’ll only sleep if I really should, or can’t help it. But sleep is good.

  • Always wear sunglasses, a cap and carry an extra jumper for when the sleep hits - I like my face to be totally hidden from potential ridicule

  • Wear shoes that are easy to slip on and off and don’t smell

  • Take a pair of long, cosy, sleeping socks and put them on immediately

  • Take a notebook and pen for when all your genius ideas come to mind straight after your first sip of wine

  • Pre-download a full really well reviewed investigative podcast that will keep you going when your eyes have had enough of the really stark white light on the TV screen

  • Take a phone charger so you can listen it to

  • Wear comfortable clothing….but I feel we all know that

What does wellness look like to you?

Wellness to me looks like feeling good. It’s my state of mind. This means I do things that actually are good for me. I love to run, be outside, eat well, sleep well and feel strong. All the usuals. But I also love to feel inspired and that often comes from conversations with strangers, or with friends over a bottle of wine, or cooking on my own at home alone, listening to music and not speaking for a whole evening, or laughing, continuously, at all times, if possible. Wellness to me is all about enjoyment. Stimulating the senses. Feeling fed, heard and watered. And that comes to me in many forms.

When do you feel at your most creative?

In the morning on a run or a walk when no one else is anywhere in sight. My mind becomes clear and endless. I love it.

Thank you so much Angharad!

Non Negotiables with the brilliant Laura Merritt

Laura Merritt is the co founder of her PR agency - Merritt Tate and specialise in traditional PR, events, influencer and brand partnerships.

Most used apps?

Whatsapp, Citymapper, Instagram and, how depressing – Hinge.

Non negotiables in your morning routine

My morning shower and skincare routine is my favourite part of the morning. I love my bed and being in bed so having to get out of it in the morning is torture, the hot shower and all my creams and potions seem to soften the blow. Also, coffee.

Any productivity hacks you can share?

Lists! I live for a list. I have a list for everything – things I need to do, things other people need to do, things I need to buy, ideas, goals. If it’s on a list then I know at some point, sooner or later, I have to tick it off.

When you need to switch off what do you do?

I’m a big champion of mindlessness. I know everyone is talking about mindfulness but really for me my brain is in overdrive for majority of the day due to the fact I run my own business and am a single woman who dates men (ew) and is prone to overthinking (lol) so it’s important for me to fully turn my brain off where possible. That’s why I adore really terrible television, it’s the best thing for switching off! Below Deck and The Real Housewives are my go-to lobotomy shows.

Online food delivery or actual supermarket shop?

If I’m having people come to stay then I will do a big online shop, otherwise I’m one of those terrible people who hit up the small Sainsburys every other day when really, I should just to a sensible weekly shop. Sunday is Deliveroo day.

Top 2 songs on your playlist?

At the moment there is just one! I’m obsessed with ‘Got me started’ by Troye Sivan. I’ve got it on repeat and my toxic trait is thinking I can easily do the dance routine from the video (spoiler alert I cannot).

You travel a lot, what’s your long haul flight routine?

I’m all about efficient travel. I’m away so often for both work and pleasure so for me it’s just about keeping everything simple so I’m not boarding a long haul flight with too many unnecessary items. I take minimal hand luggage – usually just a large bottle of water from airport Boots, my skincare, my phone, charger, passport and (if I’m working) my laptop. I’m that person on a long-haul flight doing a full skincare routine, which will involve some kind of chemical exfoliant followed by a sheet mask, a facial mist and then sealing it all in with Aquaphor or Cicaplast. I also can’t say no to an in-flight Bloody Mary or 3 to put me to sleep whilst I put on a movie.

You are the founder of your own PR Company - what does a typical week look like?

Well, I actually have a wonderful co-founder too thankfully so we share the load, but yeah – we are busy! I saw a tarot card reader and she told me work was going to be overwhelming until January and I think she nailed it. Typical weeks these days seem to always involve at least one event, lots of emails, pitching out stories, writing copy for press releases or founder interviews, calls (so many calls), speaking with potential clients and checking in with our wider team on coverage opportunities and influencer activity. No day is the same.

Go-to cocktail?

Margarita always, with a Tajin rim if possible please. If not available, then a Paloma.

What does wellness look like to you?

Gosh - I think I’m still figuring this out honestly but I’m always looking for balance! Sometimes if I’m really overwhelmed it’s as simple as going for a run, washing my hair, covering myself in moisturiser and doing my nails whilst I listen to a podcast in bed. More often than not though, wellness is a simple as deleting dating apps.

Thank you so much Laura!

Non Negotiables with the brilliant Sydney Piercey

Sydney is an author, content creator and a mother of 4. Her and her family packed up their lives in London and moved to the Provence countryside and have recently settled to rebuild what is set to be a beautiful family home on a farm.

1. What’s a typical morning like for you?

My kids wake up first, and join us in our room. They read stories or play with their toys at the end of our bed and (usually) let my husband and I wake up slowly before we all go down for breakfast and to feed our animals.

2. How do you carve out time for yourself alongside having 4 young children?

It’s tricky and ever changing! I’m never really alone as my youngest is just a few weeks and I’m exclusively breastfeeding. So my alone time (which used to be horse riding or time out of the house with a friend) has to be closer to home at the moment. Mostly it’s resting - anything I can do and not have to think about - like losing myself in a good book once my kids are asleep. I recently read The List by Yomi Adegoke, oh my word. It’s a must read!

3. Tea of coffee?

How do you take it?

Hot water and lemon! I can’t really do caffeine as I’m naturally quite high energy so caffeine sends me over the edge! Instead I prefer a hot water and lemon to slow down my nervous system.

4. Your family travel all together and it’s so beautiful to see, are there any go to things to make it feel less stressful?

We drive rather than flying. It’s an environmental decision but also means we’re more in control of the journey, not having to be anywhere by a certain time, and can go at our own schedule and stop and start when we need. Living in the South of France we are really lucky to have Europe at our fingertips. We can be in Spain in 4 hours by car or Italy in a day and the views and pitstops taken at our own pace on the way make the journey as exciting as the destination.

5. We’ve loved watching your journey online and your content has served as reminder to slow down and enjoy the small moments of life. But you have carved out an amazing career as an author and content creator.

How do you manage them both?

Childcare! We have an amazing childminder who our kids love, who comes to our house and takes care of the kids every weekday until lunchtime whilst I work from home. It’s a time I can count on to have to myself each day, whilst being close to my children. I don’t get always get everything I want or need to get done in that time, but once the time is up, I’m pretty good at saying to myself – “ok let’s go and live life now” and embrace time with my family and going slowing with them all. Ultimately, that’s my priority right now. Just being with them and enjoying the everyday.

6. Your ultimate luxury item (can be food beauty clothes anything)

At home massages. I’m forever with a small person (or two!) in my arms which has wreaked havoc on my back! My husband and I began treating ourselves to massages with a therapist we’ve known for years. She comes to our house and it’s such an epic treat.

7. Staple food shop/ Grocery run items

Milk, Chocapic and Cheerios are always on the list for the kids breakfast! Then fruit and veg which varies depending on the season. Our local fruit and veg shop is one of my favourite places - everything is locally sourced, best of the season, hardly any plastic and they keep recipe books dotted around the place so you can get inspo while you shop! Rosé is another staple in our house, we live in rosé region so there’s great rosé here at such great prices. It’s for my husband and friends though - I’ve recently gone alcohol free so none for me.

8. Are you a morning or evening person?

Ooo such a tricky one! We live on a farm and waking up in the morning to the sounds of our goats, our neighbours’ chickens and all the other sounds of nature is magic! But evenings are special, we eat dinner as a family most nights and everyone takes it in turns to share something good and something bad about their day, and we watch the sunset from one of our fields. Then once we’ve read stories and put the kids to bed, my husband and I can have our time together, and talk to each other uninterrupted! Best of everything really!

Non Negotiables with Cherelle Brown

The inspiring Cherelle Brown who is the founder of Kitsch Noir. The award winning, family friendly, black greeting cards and stationery brand is talking all about her non negotiable’s, enjoy!

Do you work best In the mornings or evenings

It really depends on my mood and what's going on for me during that specific period! I have produced really satisfactory work at 7am but also at 10pm! But I must say, waking up early always sets the tone for a productive day for me, even if I start working after lunch, that usually means I would've got a nice amount of self care completed in the morning which is just as important as 'work' for me.

What are your tips for getting organised

Planning as far ahead as possible! I like to plan my whole month ahead and then love dissecting it into weeks and days. Anyone that knows me, knows I cannot live without my physical calendars and planners! My top tip is using my large monthly wipeable calendar. It sits on my wall and makes all my tasks and goals for the next few weeks super clear.

Tea or coffee

Oooh, that's a tough one! I love both. But I'm going to go for tea. I recently went on holiday and didn't drink coffee once, I was fine! But I had to reach for a tea at least 3 times during the vacation! I think I only crave coffee when I'm in work mode, tea is more of a comfort and pleasure for me.

Go to comfort meal

Spaghetti Bolognese with lots of cheese! When I'm feeling lazy or want to feel cosy and watch a film after a long day, I quite enjoy the process of making this meal as I don't have to think about it and can do it with my eyes closed! The result always bangs and its so moreish!

Favourite thing about living in London

The diversity and variety of so many different communities. There's so much to learn and it's so easy to meet people from different backgrounds. I also love how easy it is to get around. No where is more than an hour away when you're in London. (Unless you are going to somewhere in Croydon haha!)

When launching your business what advice were you given that’s stuck with you

Always remember to ask yourself - "Do I love this & ultimately; am I enjoying this?" My Dad always drummed it into my head from such a young age, that if you are not enjoying what you are doing, maybe you need to rethink? I've been in so many jobs where the answer was "No." and I've tried to ride them out, knowing it wasn't for me. But since starting KitsCH Noir, I've honestly loved every moment. There have been hard times but I am truly doing what I love and the bottom line is - I enjoy the majority of it.

What are some things you do for self care

These may seem like weird ones, but I plan, tidy up and clean. LOL - I think we get so confused with self care sometimes because we think it has to be luxurious, cost a certain amount or be enjoyable. But I have come to realise that the most vital parts of looking after myself consists of many basic things like having a tidy, peaceful living and work space, knowing my bed is made before leaving the house, making sure my laundry is done and folded away and having a plan for the next day. All these activities aren't necessarily 'fun' but they are my top non negotiables when it comes to caring for myself.

How do you switch off from work as a busy female founder

I take regular breaks, go to meet friends, go for walks or spend time with my family!

Non Negotiables with the fabulous kim brown

Today is the brilliant make-up artist, Kim Brown. Kim is a fountain of  knowledge when it comes to all things beauty and make up so we are so excited to have her answer her non negotiables this week for the newsletter.

1. If someone could only afford/had time for one treatment what would you recommend?

Sarah Bradden’s facial. So amazing.

Described as a ‘spiritual reset and facelift’, The Bradden Method has been designed to treat physical and emotional symptoms, improving overall mental wellbeing and appearance. She uses Acupuncture alongside reflexology and light treatment. Face is visibly lifted and you feel like you’ve had a health overhaul.

2. A beauty trend you really rate/ a beauty trend you don't think is worth the hype

I absolutely love facial Acupuncture but also think micro currant technology really works. I bang on about Nu Face to whoever will listen, but it really works to firm and tone.

I feel like the whole fat freezing trend is a bit of a con. I know a few people that have tried it and it’s never worked.

3. Desert island product?

My Meder beauty sheet masks. Can’t beat them for hydration.

4. What does self care look like for you?

I think it’s important to treat yourself now and again to a great massage of a facial. It’s such a boost. Otherwise create your own spa at home with your favourite products. If you can’t look after yourself you can’t be your best for others.

5. What are you non negotiables in your morning routine?

A really good cleansing balm. I love the Elemis rose one. It leaves your skin feeling clean, but still full of moisture.

Thank you so much Kim

Newsletter Issue 10

Hello!

Ok we are 6 weeks into the year, the frost has risen and Christmas is a distant memory but this is the 1st newsletter back so… HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Truth be told, I'm always so pleased once the newsletter goes out and feel really proud of it but for whatever reason I can't get my head round producing it. I really want to make it worth your time reading it so i'm working on some ideas to make it jam packed.

It’s been a really full start to the year, and there have been some changes at Ace & Prince.

Early January I became the sole founder of the company. It's been a really brilliant journey working in a partnership  but change is also great and exciting and I'm really looking forward to bringing newness into the brand.

Some things i've been loving:

I went to a gorgeous dinner hosted by Ghost, which is a brand my mum was OBSESSED with in the 90’s so it feels really nostalgic. I got gifted this dress which i already know is going to be the go to dress all summer, layered with my baby girl shirt over the top.

I’ve been talking about Papos Bagels since the beginning . It's a New York bagel shop based in Hackney and run by the coolest couple. Delicious and a real weekend ritual for my family now. They now do bagel chips. RUN DON'T WALK.

The pouches are back, they are perfect for putting your essentials in. I like to use mine for credit cards, lip balms keys, airpods etc and then have that inside the tote bag so all the important things aren't floating around.

We’ve got a new colour way of the hero tote. It's giving spring and I'm here for it.
